Key 7: God’s Word about you is a new seed

The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of God will overshadow you… and blessed are you who believed there would be a fulfillment of what God said to you… (Luke 1:28-45, paraphrased)

Mary asked the messenger:  How can this be? There were no instructions for her except to believe what God said.

By believing God’s Words about you, you will have God’s good Seed in you.

St. Peter said your faith in God’s Words about Jesus are an imperishable seed living inside you. (1 Peter 1:23)

What else is great about God’s seed? You only need faith the size of a mustard seed to become everything he has planted in you. His Word about you does all the work when you believe it… It transforms you into his glorious child!

It’s such a small truth to believe.  It doesn’t require a lot of learning.  Jesus’ Apostles were “uneducated ordinary men”. And the Holy Spirit promises to teach you everything you need to know about the Words of God.

All God requires is that you hear and believe the Word of God. The Word of God says faith comes by hearing the Word of God proclaimed! It’s so simple and profound anyone can get it.

Here’s how it can look when someone believes:

Peter started speaking… ‘They put Jesus to death by hanging him on a tree; but God raised him on the 3rd day and allowed him to appear… and He commanded us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead. All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.’

While Peter was still speaking the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word… for they [were] speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, ‘Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?’ So he ordered them to be baptized…”. (Acts 10:39-48)

Then this happens:

By baptism ALL SINS are forgiven, original and all personal sins, as well as ALL punishment for sins... In those who have been reborn, nothing remains that would impede their entry into the Kingdom of God.  (CCC 1263)

Christ’s disciples have put on the new man, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.  (CCC 2475)
